"So the people shouted, and the trumpets were blown. As soon as the people heard the sound of the trumpet, the people raised a great shout, and the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up...and they took the city."-Joshua 6:1-27

What ifs

I found a resource called BeNotAfraid.net for parents who have received a discouraging prenatal diagnosis for their child in the womb.

As the name of the website suggests, very often we give in to fear when we learn things have not gone according to our plans. We become despondent. But the Lord asks us to clothe ourselves with everything that is the opposite of fear.

I found this resource in an article that asks a very sobering question: what do you do if the baby in your womb isn't healthy and happy and everything you hoped it would be?

My wife and I are anticipating the birth of our second child. I am always very careful not to say we are "expecting a child" because that implies that our child hasn't arrived yet, which is not true. We have been with child since the moment my sperm fertilized her ovum.

But we are still in anticipation because any number of things aren't guaranteed to us. Pregnancy and delivery are all about surrendering to the unknown. One can choose fear, or one can choose to bless God for whatever outcome is in His hands.

"The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away- blessed be the name of the Lord!"
